A kick-off is a way of starting/restarting play:
A coin is tossed to decide the direction of play and kick-off.
The match is started by a kick-off and after a signal from the referee.
All players must be in their own half of the field.
Opponents of the kicker must be at least 10 yards from the ball.
The ball must be played forward and is in play when it moves.
The kicker cannot touch or play the ball a second time before it has been touched or played by another player.
After any other temporary stoppage, play is restarted by a drop ball.
The ball must touch the ground before it is in play.
The ball must not be played by any player until it has touched the ground.
The ball is dropped at the place where it was when play was stopped (subject to overriding conditions of Law 13).
A free kick awarded to the defending team inside its own goal area is taken from any point within the goal area.
An indirect free kick awarded to the attacking team in its opponents goal area is taken from the goal area line parallel to the goal line at the point nearest to where the incident occurred.
When play has been temporarily stopped inside the goal area, play shall be restarted by dropping the ball on the goal area line parallel to the goal line at the point nearest to where the incident occurred.
A goal can be scored directly from the kick-off.
If play is stopped when the ball is on the goal line between the goal posts and has to be restarted with a drop-ball, the ball should be dropped on the goal area line nearest to where play was stopped.
The team winning the toss can choose which goal to attack.
The goal keeper can take part when play is restarted by a drop-ball.
If the game is to be restarted by a drop-ball and the players in one team refuse to take part, the referee can drop the ball with only players from one team taking part.
