Law 14- The Penalty Kick

At the taking of a penalty kick:

• the kick is taken from the penalty mark
• the kicker is identified
• all players except the kicker and the defending goal keeper must be in the field of play, outside the penalty area, behind the penalty mark and at least 10 yards from the penalty mark
• the defending goal keeper remains on his goal line between the goal posts, facing the kicker until the ball has been kicked
• the ball must be played forward
• the ball cannot be played a second time by the kicker until it has been touched or played by another player
• the ball is in play when it is kicked and moves forward

Additional time is permitted to allow for the taking of a penalty kick at the end of either half or at the end of either period of extra time.

Did you know?

A player taking penalty kick cannot play the ball back to a teammate.

If an attacker and defender enter the penalty area before the ball is kicked, the kick must be re taken.
