Law 15 - The Throw-in

Prior to taking a throw-in:

• the throw must be taken from the point at which the ball has previously crossed the touch line
• the thrower faces the field of play
• part of each foot must be on the ground, either on or outside the touch line
• the thrower uses both hands to throw the ball
• the ball is delivered from behind the head
• the ball cannot be touched or played a second time by the thrower until it has been touched or played by another player
• all opponents must stand no less than 2 metres from the point at which the throw-in is taken
• a goal cannot be scored direct from a throw-in

Did you know?

If an opponent jumps up in front of the player taking the throw-in, he should be cautioned for unsporting behaviour.

A foul throw would be awarded against a player who does not take a throw-in from the point at which the ball passed over the touch line.
