The Special Olympics Great Britain National Games are held every 4 years and Glasgow hosted the 7th Games from 2nd to 9th July 2005, the first time they have been held in Scotland.
Nineteen teams from throughout Great Britain took part with ten from England, one from Wales and eight from Scotland making this the largest sporting event to be held in the UK this year. A total of 11 venues in and around Glasgow hosted the various sporting events. Athletes competed in 23 sports including first time sports of judo, kayaking and motorised activity training programme.
Those flying the flag for Lanarkshire at this prestigious sporting event, pictured above, from the left, are Messer D MacKinnon, P Crilley, R Paterson, S Miller and F Queen.
