The ups and downs of the Association's Quiz Team posted 28/6/2005

Following their success beating Stirlingshire and Edinburgh in the regional heat, our quiz team went to St Andrews with and air of confidence but also trepidation. Regular or frequent visitors to this site may remember Frank Queen had steered the team (comprising himself, Peter Crilley and Jim Hardie) to a well earned victory but for Peter and Jim it was felt some revision was necessary.

At St Andrews, we were drawn against Glasgow in the first semi-final. Luck was on our side - Jim and Peter had obviously been regulars at their local pub quizzes and Frank continued to take the helm. These factors coupled with an element of luck with the questions and a good all round team performance saw the boys beat Glasgow fairly convincingly to go into the final. Moray & Banff won through to the final in a closely contested second semi-final.

From start to finish, the final was a close run (and exciting) event with the lead changing hands several times but in the end, it was Moray & Banff who triumphed, narrowly beating us by 26 points to 22. For Jim and Peter, their efforts had paid off - an excellent  performance, for Frank, the accolade of leading the team to the final and for the rest of us confirmation that the second most intelligent group of referees in the Scottish refereeing community hail from Lanarkshire.

Well done guys for what was one of the highlights of the weekend.
