This year's Association annual golf outing took place on Sunday 30th July 2006 at Riccarton Golf Club, Hamilton.
Our "golfers", and I use the term as loosely as I used it when previously describing Derek Nicholls' refereeing performance at our annual five-a-side competition, were blessed with a dry, sunny and warm day so they could blame nobody other than themselves for any "under par" performances.
In the words of the immortal Jim Hardy, "a grand day was had by all". After a close and extremely competitive match, Jimmy McCunnie came out on top with a score of with 38 points. Les "the Shark" Norris was runner up with Willie "the Fox" McLeish third. Jim reckons a steward's enquiry is needed as Scott Jamieson off 36 (whatever that means to the non-golfing fraternity) did not get a prize - never mind Scott, it's not so much about the winning as the taking part.
Some of the finer moments of this enjoyable day have been captured on camera for all to see.
Left: Stevie "the Mole" Nicholls seems to be having a spot of bother - looks as though he has given up on the golf and decided to start heading down under
- mind you he has a swing that others would be proud of.
Right: Despite his
predicament, the Fox (alias Willie McLeish) looks rather pleased with himself as he gives the thumbs up
- could it be he has just realised he is ahead of Stevie Nicholls - in the race to get down under that is!!
Left: Would you buy a used car from this lot?
What can I say - at least they look the part.
Some of you will be thinking it's been some time since Donnie Mac graced our pages - well here he is resplendent (rear left) in trendy baseball cap - some folk will resort to anything just for that wee bit extra publicity
Right: Les always was a couple of steps ahead of the competition.
Left: Scott manages a smile - could it be that he has been doing some creative accounting on his score card?
Right: Hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil.
Left: A serious moment - Jim poses proudly outside the clubhouse after being presented
with the winner's trophy - well done Jim.
As you can see, it would appear that all the guys thoroughly enjoyed their day. By all accounts, the golf outing is always a good day out. If these pictures have put you in the notion for next year's golf outing watch this space.
Well done to the photographer for some very good photos - our resident paparazzi in residence (Sandy Miller) must be quivering on his tripod - these photos certainly give him a run for his money - maybe the social committee should consider holding an annual photography contest.
