At its meeting last month, the Referee Committee approved the attached document which sets out guidance on Social Media. The document has been posted in the Guidelines and Protocols folder in the Library.

It is acknowledged that the use of Social Media is commonplace in society in modern life. It is considered appropriate to issue guidance to referees and Referees’ Associations.

Using Social Media requires to be done responsibly.

The document contains a section on the Compliance Officer and his powers to investigate potential breaches of Disciplinary Rules.

It should be noted that a number of referees have been dealt with by the Judicial Panel in recent years for breaches of these Rules.
